FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
JRE 1.5.0_12 and JRE 6 update 1 installed
ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
Windows XP SP2
EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
Internet Explorer 7
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
When Java Runtime Environment 5.0 update 12 and 6 update 1 are installed on the same system, the network settings option "use browser setttings" does not work correct.
When only JRE 5.0 update 12 or JRE 6.0 update 1 are installed the issue does not occur.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
- Install JRE 15.0_12 and JRE 6 update 1 on the same XP system.
- Configure Internet Explorer to use a auto configuration file for the proxy.
- Configure Java to use "browser settings".
- Goto a website that will use JRE 5.0 update 12
(examples:
https://www.creationconnect.com/iws150.html
http://javaboutique.internet.com/movingtree
)
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
The applets on the website will run, using JRE 5.0 update 12
ACTUAL -
The appets on the website does not run. Java console reports PROXY=DIRECT.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
1. Configure "Use automatic proxy configuration script" in the Java control panel applet and specify the URL to the proxy.pac file.
or
2. Uninstall JRE 6.0 update 1
or
3. Uninstall JRE 5.0 update 12
- When we specify a path to our proxy.pac the websites are working --> No issue with the pac file itself.
- When we install only one Java version no issue with the websites, but this will not work for us as we have requirements for running multiple versions side by side. This does allow us to migrate to JRE 6 as this will break all our JRE 5 dependent Internet web applications.
