regression: installation warning due to 4811103 and 4886987

The following warning messages appeared at the end of installation using tiger SWAT build j2sdk-1_5_0-beta-bin-b32-solaris-sparc-19_dec_2003.sh on alclab-003.sfbay (Solaris 8 sparc, no gnome)

This only happens when switched to super user mode. This may be a side effect of 4811103 and 4886987.
