The parameter definition for java.awt.JobAttributes.setFileName() specifies that the filename could be possibly null. This is misleading since the filename argument is something specified by the user. I think this is a copy/ paste error from getFileName() from where the line is copied. It must specify that the filename should be a valid file name acceptable to the underlying file system.
