TabPane open/close animations are not smooth

Due to the way the open/close animations are implemented (and not due to any underlying performance or graphics issue), TabPane open/close animations appear jerky, with the size of the tabs not appearing as expected throughout the animation cycle. Additionally, the way the text disappears before the animation starts looks bad. Finally, the speed is a little too slow for my liking, which makes the tab pane feel like it is struggling to operate in a performant manner.
