need methods to delete files and directories

cds - I presume these methods are for standalone apps and not applets.
Do we have a way of distinguishing this in the API? (i.e. is there a
distinction between the applet API and the Java API? Or is this a
security manager issue in the case of applets?) In any case we should test
these methods both in applets and in standalone apps.
