Figure animation in sentence applet skips parts in Solaris, okay in Win95

The animation in the the following sentence applet

shows big discrepencies between Win95 and Solaris. The applet takes
sentences and illustrates their meanings by animations using little
images. The following sentences were tested, with the noted
differences:

    The rabbit jumps from the house to the car:
        Win95: rabbit moves across applet in a series of hops
        Solaris: wait 1-2 seconds, rabbit appears near car; no
                  intermediate hops shown.

    The girl walks to the house.
        Win95: girl image slides slowly across applet to house;
                traversal takes about 4 seconds
        Solaris: one big screen flash, wait 2-3 seconds, and the girl
                  image appears at the house

    The girl runs to the house.
        Win95: girl image slides quickly across applet to house
Solaris: one quick screen flash and the girl image is at the house
