The Quadrature applet below

appears to paint() itself twice when first loaded on Win95, but
only once when loaded on Solaris. It's easy to see the double
painting since the applet paints itself fairly slowly, and it chooses
different colors for each paint (also seen when it redraws itself for
window damage). The double versus single painting is also evident
when the applet reloaded (with the reload button) in the appletviewer.
