The overlayer applet

presents an image on the left and a selection list on the right.
When loading, the Win95 appletviewer sets the applet size
appropriately to reveal both. Solaris appletviewer, however, flashes
briefly to what looks like the right size but then gets narrower so
that only the image is visible. The selection list is still reachable
and usable after you manually enlarge the window.

No source code is available from the page, but the applet's author
offers:
