This does not look like form output to me.
The Sun JDK 1.0 beta applet viewer for Macintosh
gives different results than do the Roaster viewer.
Both Roaster's applet viewer and the Netscape2.0 browsers
running on Sun and SGI machines agree. More specifically:
when I open up
http://xanadu.math.utah.edu/java/ApproxArea.html
or anything else in the collection
http://xanadu.math.utah.edu/java/
using the open URL command in Sun's applet viewer, the applet
loads and runs properly. However, if I push one of the applet's
buttons, all the buttons disappear. The are still "there" however:
if I press where the button is, it responds (correctly), and is even
briefly visible.
Perhaps I've written bad code*, but I'm sorta mystified because
of the disparity of the results under different viewers & browsers.

*It is definitely not elegant or optimal
