awttests/KeyTest does not display the keyboard events in all fields--is it possible that the keyboard
focus is "too specific?". This does work correctly on Motif (or, alternatively, it is intended to work as
it does in tiny, and Motif is broken.)
The description field as copied from bug report 1254091 follows:
Canvases appear to be refusing to take the focus. This is likely the result
of my somewhat crufty focus selection code which should be updated to
go with the new 'tabbable' interface provided by the awt team.
An example of an applet that you cannot interact with is:

The description field as copied from bug report 1260478 follows:
On Solaris the arrow keys scroll through an HTML doc,
on Kona they do nothing. HOME and END don't work on Kona either.

The description field as copied from bug report 1258636 follows:
1. Load http://cafedead/~rcb/AWT/index.html.
2. Run KeyTest.
3. Attempt to type characters from your keyboard. They are not reflected in KeyTest window, but this works on Solaris.
