using the Win32 version of JDK1.1 appletviewer (build from july23). The first applet is the
simplest and will probably be the most helpful in tracking down the problem.

Immediately a window comes up saying "This program has performed an Illegal operation
and will be shut down."

This does not occur with Solaris JDK1.1 appletviewer or any 1.0.2 versions.

The java code is present in the same directory as the html files for you to view.
