The documentation for the appletviewer command looks like it has a cut-n-pasto from the javac command. In the description of the -J option, it says "Passes through the string javaoption as a single argument to the Java interpreter which runs the compiler.", which I think should instead refer to the Java interpreter which runs the appletviewer.
