While scrollbars certainly have orientation, all adjustables
do not necessarily have orientation. Consider a knob or dial
component.

If it's too late to move the property somewhere else,
maybe a static final int NOTORIENTED = 2 would be a
good aesthetic workaround (or at least it would make me
feel better ;-)).
