The JLS lists two main entries for "string conversion", both early on, pages 60 and 67. But in fact, an important part of string conversion is one page 355 (section 15.17.1.1), where it describes the actual process of string conversion, and in particular says what happens to null reference values. You might also want to put in an index entry for that section under "string conversion" under the index entry for "null".
