The usual download/installation of JDK 1.1.1 on Solaris results in the following steps:
1. Download jdk1.1.1-solaris2-sparc.sfx (~9.9 Mb)
2. Run the .sfx script, generating the install.bin file (a self-extracting
ZIP executable, ~9.9 Mb)
3. Run the install.sh script, which first unzips the install.bin script and
generates the jdk1.1.1.tar file (~23 Mb) and then extracts it (another
~23 Mb) and AFTERWARDS removes the install.bin file!
In all, it's 9.9 + 9.9 + 23 Mb = ~43 Mb of *working* space for the install!
(+ 23 Mb for the installed JDK = ~66 Mb!!!)Of course, then you can rm
everything and be left with only the 23 Mb for the installed JDK...
