Displaying the SwingSet demo on a Compaq with a Matrox Millenium in 1280x1024x8 mode, the colors of Swing components are very strange, looks like a small weave of a few colors rather than solid colors. The text on menus and tabs are unreadable. If I change to 1024x768x16, the colors appear correctly.
nancy.schorr@eng 1997-12-12: This also occurs with Windows 95. This is an important bug because if you're low on vram, and have a big monitor, the way to take advantage of the big monitor is to switch to 8-bit color. All of the swing demos are unusable in 8-bit. The same apps look fine when using JDK1.1.5, so it appears that this problem is only with JDK1.2.
