orig synopsis: "applet output to status line is not always output"

The applets on page http://parched/~pkelley/master/manual/LoadApplet/AppSecUH.html
will output a message to the browser status line as it gets "mouse over"
events.

Sometimes the messages are output fine, and other times no messages are output
as one moves the mouse over the various applets. (HINT: When this happens,
reloading the page will often fix the problem.)

We have same problem with appletviewer from jdk 1.1.6.
