Problem raised by an IBMer:

"The installation for jdk1.1.5 noted that my system did not have
Winsock2 and suggested that I let the installer install it for
me. I did. After installation I tried runnig the java speech
"hello" demo from the alphaworks site. It failed."

"I subsequently noted that ftp no longer worked correctly and
ping would not resolve IP addresses. Even when given an IP
address ping gave error 10091. After looking around for a while
trying to figure out what went wrong, I discovered the \windows\ws2bakup
directory and ran ws2bakup.bat. After that everything worked fine."

He believes that their should be a disclaimer that installing Winsock2
may corrupt your system and explain how to uninstall it.
