carlos.lucasius@canada 1998-03-19:
Bug reported by Corel (licensee) for JFC1.1 using JDK1.1.4 on WINNT4.0.
Corel: "Very critical bug for our product - requires immediate attention."
Performance slows down to a crawl after a window of text is filled and the
scroll bar appears. Just enter a couple screen of text. Text rendering is
so slow that it is almost impossible to use.

carlos.lucasius@canada 1998-04-08:
Further to a conference call including Rick Levenson, Hans Muller, myself,
and Corel on April 6, 1998, the same source (Corel) has requested this bug
to be reopened again, based on the following additional information:
The problem does not have to do with the amount of text actually present,
but with the size of individual paragraphs. I think it's normal for
a user to type a paragraph which is several lines long (more than 10)
without hitting the carriage return. The problem seems to occur since
all that data is loaded into one paragraph element. When this element
is rendered, the LabelView gets broken up into several pieces to provide
the wraparound. The performance seems to slow in direct proportion to
the number of breaks. Try this:
1. Open Stylepad and start a new document
2. Maximize the window
3. Type about 10 lines of text WITHOUT hitting <enter>.
Ie: Let the text wrap (performance seems good).
4. Now take the window and resize it to about half the width
of the screen. If you type now, you should see the performance
really slow down (you can type ahead of the cursor)
