Run the enclosed application JapaneseDisplay in the Japanese locale, without using the workaround that enables platform fonts. The pane "Lightweight component using TextLayout" tries to draw Japanese text using TextLayout, the panes "Lightweight component using drawString" and "Swing text component using Graphics.drawString. On Solaris 2.5.1, you see random Roman glyphs displayed instead of the Japanese characters in these panes.
