Notepad crashes while opening a plain text document with swing1.1beta and JDK1.1.6 on Windows NT and a Dr. Watson log is created (see attachment, and the beginning of it below).

Steps to Reproduce:
0) Setup up so that you're using Windows NT, swing1.1beta and JDK1.1.6.
1) Launch the Notepad example by typing "runnit".
2) Attempt to open the readme file that is in the Notepad directory.
RESULT: The application crashes, and on my machine, a Dr. Watson log is created.

Application exception occurred:
        App: java.exe (pid=124)
        When: 7/10/1998 @ 15:12:48.744
        Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)
