Symptom:
  In ISO8859-15 locales (supporting the Euro currency symbol, etc.), the
  AWT TextArea and TextField convert Java strings to C strings using
  JNU_GetStringPlatform(). (These are not multibyte locales.) The string
  is converted as if it were iso8859-1, not iso8859-15.
