Java 1.2rc1 looks wonderful, but it still has the
problem of 1.2b4, only more so. If I attempt to
run anything on my monochrome x terminal (which
I have used for the last 3 years developing my
software in Java), or on a remote linux box
over X windows (a 16 bit display), the JVM throws
an exception, informing me that the display is
      not supported.

Obviously this is not news, as the 1.2 rc 1 release
notes says that 16 color displays are not supported,
and that 8 bit displays are the minimum.

This is really a criminal restriction, which will
make it impossible for me to migrate over to 1.2
for my application, and will make it necessary to
support the client on both 1.1 with javax.swing and
1.2 (which looks great on the windows platform)..

Please, please, please tell me that this is not
something that you have decided never needs to be
addressed. It does, if UNIX is going to be a viable
      deployment target for my app.
