We use the java-plugin as the mechanism to administer our product from a browser. THe applets are in jdk 1.1.7. We get the attached message on running on the Solaris 8 system with the Java2 plugin which is on Solairs 8 in the package SUNWj2pi. The plugin is running in the Solaris 8 browser packaged as NSCPcom (Netscape communicator 4.7)
THe same applets work with the Java plugin versions 1.1.x. In the attached file is the error on the java console.

Because the Java 2 platform is not fully backward-compatible with the
JDK 1.1.x, we want to execute some applets on the Java 2 Platform and
other applets on the 1.1 platform.
Nowadays, a browser can launch only one Java VM even if it uses
multiple windows. So, we must exit the browser, reconfigure it (to
change the Java VM), and launch the browser again. It is inconvenient
for customers.
Do you have any good idea for this issue?
