Pure Java input methods are platform unaware but they are likely to be keyboard type aware. Precise keyboard information in platform independent form should be available through the SPI.

So it would be helpful to get the attached keyboard information like keyboard type (PC-101, PC-106, Sparc, etc.), layout (US, JP, DE, etc.), lock state (Caps, Scroll, Num, Kana, etc.).
