      Name: mc57594 Date: 10/05/99

      HARDWARE: Intel PII / NT4 Terminal Server Edition.
      JAVA: HotSpot / JDK 1.2.2

      We have an java application that uses swing components, ObjectStore 5.1 / ObjectStore JAVA 3.0_sp2.

      under NT Terminal Server Edition in a client remote session, the application seems to start and before any graphic component is showed, it crash in java.exe (classic & hotspot mode) doing a protection fault (Dr Watson).

      An other part of this application (with swings & ObjectStore) is launched as an NT service (with MicroSoft SRVANY.EXE that launch java VM). this service seems to work (system service).

      -----

      We have an older version of this application that runs in java 1.1.7ai with ObjectStore5.1 / ObjectStore JAVA 1.3 and works well with Terminal Server Edition.

      you can find a little java class named "test.Test1" that uses Swing and JVM 1.2.2 in classic mode attached with this mail.
      it brings up a JFrame with a JList in it.

      CONFIG:
      we have a workstation (NT4.0 WorkStation) and a server (NT4.0 Server, Terminal Server Edition)
      jdk 1.2.2 has been installed on the workstation and the server using Microsoft application add/suppress programs icon in NT ControlPanel (it is noticed by Microsoft because of "change user" operation).

      TESTS:
      when we start it on the workstation (not in a Terminal session) it works well;
      when we start it on the workstation in a Terminal Session (running on the server), the JVM crashes (java.exe);
      when we start it on the server directly, the JVM crashes (java.exe);

      A second little java class named "test.Test2" that uses only "java.lang.System" class (french "Hello world!") and works well in all cases.

      Olivier Rouits.
