this is an issue with solaris and windows.
scenario:
with j2sdk1.3 rc2 build v, not able to Cancel out of Custom Layout FileChooser window- When there is more than one navigational window open.
This is inconsistent Custom FileChooser behavior, the other FileChooser demos allow user to Cancel out of both FileChooser Navigational window.
I stumbled into it, doing remote testing on solaris (so it was slow).

result:
in SwingSet2 under JFileChooser demo, when Custom JFileChooser is selected-twice-quickly, 2 navigational are displayed.
Not able to Cancel out of the first window that is displayed.

expected result:
I would expect that despite the fact that the user is able to create 2 modals, they should be able to access both modals for dismissal.
