I installed JDK 1.3 beta refresh on two machines running
vanilla out-of-the-box Red Hat Linux 6.2.
In
  /usr/java/jdk1.3/demo/applets/ImageMap
running
  appletviewer example1.html
works on one machine, but displays a blank (black)
image on the other.

The non-working machine has a STB Velocity-128 (4MB, I think)
running in 1280x1024 16-bit mode.
(cf the working machine which has some younger ATI card with more
memory running 1280x1024 at 24 bpp).

All of my own applets with any sort of image display functionality
also seem to have the same problem, but the JDK ImageMap demo
is the most obvious demonstrator of the bug.
