I agree with you that radio- and checkboxes don't normally have borders in
except for empty borders to set their insets!
I spent a lot of time to try different workarounds, just to move my checkboxes
five pixels to the right, which are sitting in a table cell, but none of them
is really satisfyingly.
Believe me, this is a very frustrating and in my opinion unnecessary job.
