I have been in touch regarding this problem. What seems to have happened
is that starting 1.3.0_01 some of the CAs that were there in 1.3 (at least
on Windows) were pulled and those certs. don't verify anymore.
Try the following

on Solaris/Linux.
Works fine when I use Thawte certs.
