      java version "1.3.0_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0_01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0_01, mixed mode)

(apply to both W2K-English Server & Win-98 Taiwan Chinese)

      NOTE: IT HAPPENS ALSO TO

      JDK 1.2x Version, & WIN-95/98,/2K

PROBLEMS: a) After JDK1.301/1.2x Standard Version Install
                b) I run Java-Plug control or other Java HTML
                c) Instead of English Display for Menus/Note/Comment
                   Chinese-Char (simplified version, GB-232C code)
shown in both the W2K-Advance version (english ver)
and Win-98 (taiwan chinese Big-5 code version)
My solutions, pls read all other, I will tell later

Location: HONG KONG (also apply to Chinese/Singapore/Macau/Taiwan/PRC)

PREFERRED LANGUAGE: English (not Simplified/Traiditonal Chinese)

NEED: a) To Add Use English-Interface
            b) To View/Edit Chinese (both GB-232C or Big-5)

      O/S details:

      a) Win-98 (Taiwan Chinese Big-5)
      b) Win-2000 Advanced Server (English version)

      MY Comments:

       a) I think it's crazy to display GB-232C chinese code on
a Big-5 taiwan chinese code Win-98. Is It?
          (only monster char shown)
       b) It's difficult to imagine Chinese Display on Eng W2K
       c) Many people wish to view chinese/japanese,etc on demand
          but prefer English-Interface environment
(e.g. expects from US to HK, PRC)

      My Solutions:

      a) Win-98 Taiwan Chinese (Big-5 code)
envir: locale set : Chinese-HK (even Taiwan also)
fail-try: a) change locale to other countries
         Success Method:
           1) Make-sure multi-countries supported in Win-98
           2) instal JDK 2.0 Standard
           3) run Java Plug-in Control => shown monster char
           4) uninstall multi-country support in Win-98
           5) re-boot
           6) run Java Plug-in Control => shown english menu
           7) re-instal multi-country support in Win-98
           8) re-boot
           9) run Java Plug-In Control, shown english menu
               [ S U C C E S S ]

      b) in W2K Advance Server (English version)
         environment:
             locale = Chinese (HongKong)
country support => many, incl: Simplify/Traditional Chines
                                Japanese, Korean, Greek, Hebrew, etc.
         Failure Attempt:
change locale to Chinese of (HongKong)/(Singapore)(Macau)/(Taiwan)
                            even Japan, English(US)
         Solutions Try A:
             1) disble all multipe Language Setting (but English)
             2) change Locale to English (Canada)
             3) re-boot W2K Server
             4) run Java Plug-in Control => shown English Menu
                 [SUCCESS with HANDICAPED FUNCTIONS]

         Solutions Try B:
             1) multiple Language Setting for all remains
             2) CHANGE LOCALE TO :

              LOCALE MENU LANGUAGE OK/Fail
              ====== ============= =======

              Eng (Canada) English OK
              Vietnamese English
Japanese Japanese OK for Jap, but for those
                                                   work in Jap's overseas staff
              Korea Korean ditto
Chinese(Taiwan) GB-232C Chinese NOT OK, Taiwan Chinese
                                (simplified) encoding in BIG-5
Chinese(Singapore) ditto NOT OK, English is more
                                                   common for Singaporeans

Chinese(HongKong) ditto NOT OK, English is prefer for some
HK Govt adopt BIG-5 Chinese code
                                                      not simplified GB-232C
& many people not read Chinese
              Chinese(PRC) ditto seems OK
