When run merlin b49 on solaris sparc 8 using en/he/ar
the following exceptions are thrown:

Couldn't flush user prefs:
java.util.prefs.BackingStoreException: Couldn't get file lock.
Couldn't flush system prefs:
java.util.prefs.BackingStoreException: Couldn't get file lock.

To reproduce this:
Run the code attached, the exceptions will show about every 30 seconds
until the program is terminated.
You can select menu, or just wait.
