I am using JRE of Merlin build 49.

Reproduce:
1. install JRE and the JWS.
2. Set no proxy preference and set the default JRE to be 1.4.0-beta.
3. Visit page:
   http://comanche.eng.sun.com/jawstest/merlin/
   Launch the simple test case. The program will hang at Launching application
   step.

Note:
   If use other JRE, say 1.2.2, and run the test on
   http://comanche/jawstest/hellojaws/
   test will pass. So seems something wrong with JRE itself. However,
   after download the jar file and run it at command line using merlin
   JRE, the program can run.

Reproduced on win98 and winNT.
