I have attached a test case showing this behavior. It has two buttons, the max button invokes frame.setState(Frame.ZOOMED), the second prints out the state of the Frame. Clicking on the Maximize button has no effect under Solaris (dtwm). Double clicking on the frame produces the expected result.
If we do not plan on supporting this for all window managers, then we should add a property to indicate if this is supported.
