Platfrom tested: Windows 98 1 st Edition
Browser : Netscape4.6
Java Plug-in is unable to detect the
broswer's proxy setting in Netscape4.x.
It is using the fallback even if the proxy
settings are specified in the browsers preferences.
During the fallback it is getting the proxy settings
of IE.
To reproduce the problem :
1. Install Java Plug-in Merlin build 55/56.
2. In the Java Plug-in Control panel
enable choose browser's proxy in the
proxies tab also enable Java Plug-in
console.
3. In the Netscape browser's proxy settings
specify the valid proxy server setting
(manual proxy)
4. In IE browser proxy server settings on the
same system change the proxy server to a
dummy address(dummy port 8080)
5. Load any applet uses Java Plug-in
http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/demos/applets/Clock/example1.html
6. Java Plug-in will pop-up warning dialog with message
"unable to obtain proxy configuration from netscape 4.X
or later -fallback)
7. The appletr load fine .
8. look in the proxy settings printed in the console
which would
proxy : dummy:8080 (which is specified in IE preferences)
but the Plug-in is supposed to use the setting from the
netscape browser preferences which is valid proxy settings.
Plug-in should not fallback to IE if the proxy settings are
available from the current browser.
This is tested on Windows 98 1st Edition.
