Bug 4336459 "writing/reading to TCP socket is inneficient under NT/Linux" is
      marked as "Release Fixed merlin-beta".

This is a VERY severe bug--it totally hammers the network performance of my
      product (observed 5:1 performance hit).

I need the fix rolled into the 1.3.x stream *right now*. I can not wait 6
      months+ for decent network I/O.

The Merlin *beta* is not even out. It's going to be many months before
      production-quality Merlin is available.

It's outrageous that a net-centric language like Java should have this
ridiculous implementation (static 2K buffer) in the first place, and doubly
outrageous that the bug was not fixed and rolled out IMMEDIATELY upon its
      discovery.

      Please help.
