Steps to Reproduce:

1)Launch BrowserTestSuite from javaweb.eng/~edlou/BrowserTestSuite/Suite/QLindex.html
on Win98 SE
2) Click on link "SwingSetApplet(1)" to launch SwingSetApplet.
3) On the SwingSet window, click on File->About
OR
in JOptionPane Demo, open and then close the Dialog boxes
Notice that the screen flickers and changes colors.

Whereas the screen doesn't change color or flicker when the same operations are carried on SwingSet Applet openend in Appletviewer.

This occurs on only Win98 SE.
