solaris_2.6
The release documentation for J2SDK 1.3.0[_xx] on Solaris contains important information about font requirements in its README.sparc and README.i386 files. If you look today (5/16/01), you can still find these documents referenced from the Solaris download page:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download-solaris.html
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/README.sparc
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/README.i386
Since this information will be overwritten tomorrow, I've copied the relevant sections below.
The new Ladybird download page apparently does no longer provide this information. There's a new README.html page, which doesn't have the font information, and the references to the old README pages are gone:
http://webwork.eng.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download-solaris.html
This is a serious issue, since we continuously get bug reports or emails from users who get warnings about missing fonts from their J2REs. So far we could point them to these README pages, now we can't anymore.
Instead of resurrecting the old README pages, it might be better to add the information directly to the installation instructions, similar to the patches information.

Different locales may require different character encodings.
You should check the table below to see what Solaris Font Packages
you may need on your system. The utility "pkginfo" can be used to
list the packages you have installed on your system.
