AWT window-manager support needed for JDK 1.2.2 (GNOME on Solaris 8)

This bug is a show-stopper for Java applications on GNOME
which will be Sun's primary desktop environment on
      Solaris 8 and later.

JDK 1.2.2 is the JDK version installed with Solaris 8. It is
widely used and many applications have minor dependencies
that make it impossible to run applications without change
      on later versions.

Before JDK 1.4, it was a long standing bug that Java applications
would position themselves off-screen or shrink to a tiny size.
This was due to poor JVM AWT support for window-managers (other than
OpenWindows olwm and CDE dtwm). In many cases this (and other
window-manager interaction bugs) make Java applications completely
      unusable.

Sun will ship the GNOME desktop environment as it's primary
desktop for Solaris 8 and later. GNOME uses the Sawfish
window-manager, which is fully ICCCM compliant.

To ensure that commercial and Sun applications that work on
JDK 1.2.2 continue to work on GNOME, we need these critical
window-manager interaction bug fixes in JDK 1.4 in libawt.so
to be back-ported to 1.2.2 and later versions of the JDK.
