Using the attached test suite in Linux Redhat 6.2 /KDE with exrended chars :
"java awttest -command XXX" means no ext chars can be displayed.
(See atached image 'awtcharpic'. The panel 'awt.Canvas' ( -in yellow-) shows the correct string.
When tried with 1.3.1.

This release of Java (1.3.0_xx) is un l10ned on this OS, sc. to the base team.
A note stating this in Release Notes is a good idea we feel.
