JRE 1.4 Beta 3
This is a request to Sun Microsystems to replace the Gray default startup
background for applets, with a Java logo, or a Animated javalogo
The java technology has evolved nicely over the years. It is doing very well on
the server side; on the mobile side all the major players are announcing java
enabled devices. But on the side where you expect people to really get
acquainted with the java as a platform, on the desktop, what has happened there.
All the time sun has had an opportunity to fix the ugly gray loading screen
they choose not to. Why is that? I canýt imagine why. When ordinary people are
using java enabled sites they really should be reminded with a pretty logo like
the animated java Logo, on I nice white background and perhaps some bouncing
effect like what Apple are using in their new OS X.
This would not just make it more pleasing for the user, it would also make it
more acceptable for the power developer who now is trying to use Flash to do
things java Applets also could do.But this has not happened; we are still stuck
with the gray background. In JRE 1.4 Beta3, the screen also appears with a
progress bar and some information about which classes are currently loading. I
Do you not think that this is what ordinary users would like to see when they
enter a java enabled site?
Why not try to get some free publicity, make the java logo appear as the
default image on a nice background, preferably made by a designer who knows his
job.
