On multiple machines, we have been able to get the plugin to cause browser failure when navigating from one applet to another.

The browser closes, leaving the attached log on the desktop. Here is a partial result of the log. It is the same stack trace and PC each time.

An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
      Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred at PC=0x77f6ce4c
      Function name=RtlpWaitForCriticalSection
      Library=C:\WINNT\System32\ntdll.dll

      Current Java thread:
      at sun.awt.windows.WToolkit.eventLoop(Native Method)
      at sun.awt.windows.WToolkit.run(Unknown Source)
      at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

We have seen the problem in different scenarios. However, the scenario listed in the Test Case section is the most reliable way to reproduce the problem.

We can get the problem to happen on NT 4 sp6a with IE 5.5.

      To reproduce:

-- Logon to http://158.228.57.122/wfc/logon as "SuperUser" and password "kronites"
-- After the QuickFind applet loads, click the Find button
-- Select the employee Bruce Dolan
-- Double-click on the round Timecard button in the upper right part of the applet (It's the icon of the clock with its hands at 5 o'clock). The Timecard applet should load.
-- Double-click on the People icon in the upper right part of the applet. The People applet (Employee Admin applet) should load.
-- Double-click on the Timecard icon again.
-- Double-click on the People icon again.
-- Double-click on the Timecard icon again.
      -- repeat...

After some clicks between these two applet, the browser should fail.
