      FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
      java version "1.4.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.0-b92, mixed mode)

      FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION :
      Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]

      ADDITIONAL OPERATING SYSTEMS :
      All windows

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
In JFileChooser dialog, changing selection of Files of Type
(file filter) will clear whatever currently is at File Name
      field.

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
      1. Open JFileChooser fialog
      2. Type or select a file name in File Name field
      3. Change Files of Type

      EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
What was in File Name field will be cleared. The filename
should remain, staying unchanged, regardless of change in
      Files of Type.

      FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1-b21)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1-b21, interpreted mode)

      FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION :
Windows NT Version 4.0 Service Pack 6a

      ADDITIONAL OPERATING SYSTEMS :
      Windows 2000

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
When using a JFileChooser, the dialog no longer behaves the
same as the native OS for switches in file type or filename
      filter.

The filename field is cleared or blanked out when a new
      filter/file-type is selected.

This could cause considerable confusion for a user who does
      this file type checking last.

REGRESSION. Last worked in version 1.3.1

STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
      1. Create any JFileChooser with multiple filename filters.
      2. Launch the app, and type text in the filename field.
      3. Select a different filename filter.

      EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
The filename is cleared, but it should not be.

If the user changes the filter from say .doc to .txt, then
the name should not be erased. This allows the user to
change their mind after typing the name of the file, and
since the filter (file-type) drop-down box is at the bottom
of the dialog, it will probably be the last thing the user
      checks.

      REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
