Jre version : hopper b11
bundle : j2re-1_4_1-beta-bin-b11-windows-i586-i-07_may_2002.exe
OS : Windows98 japanese
browser : NS4.7
******************************************************************
GUI applets sometimes can't be loaded completely on NS4.7 and needs a mouse action(clicking on the brower) to be executed.
It sometimes causes Browser or Machine hanging up. This problem occurs intermittedly.
* As this is a intermitted problem, the reproeucible steps are difficult to be specified.
To reproduce,
1)Install jre on Windows98 japanese.
2)Launch NS4.7.
3)Go to the url
http://i18n-u1-26c.sfbay.sun.com:8080/jaws-i18n/doc/jaws-bat.html
Click 2. I18N Test Case #1(Hello I18N) or 4. I18N Test Case #4(I18N 2D Test)
http://i18n-u1-26c.sfbay.sun.com:8080/jaws-i18n/test/bat/hello-i18n.jnlp
http://i18n-u1-26c.sfbay.sun.com:8080/jaws-i18n/test/bat/basic2d.html
4)The applet starts to be loaded, but loading stops in the middle of loading and
the applet is displayed incompletely at this point.
5)There are 3 error patterns after step 4):
(a.)If you click somewhere on the Browser soon after you noticed loading is stopped, the applet is loaded completely and works.
(b.)If you leave the applet as it is for a while(maybe for about 1 minute or so(this can not be specified though)) after loading seems to stop) and you click on the Browser, no response is got. Then, pressing "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" and finishing Java Console process, Java Console is minimized and the applet is loaded completely.
Clicking minimized Java Console icon, Java Console is restored.
(c.)If you leave the applet as it is for more longer time than (b.) and you click on the Browser, no response is got. Then, pressing "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" also does not cause any response. So pressing "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" again, machine starts to be rboot with the mssage that the sysytem is busy .
* The similar phenomenon to (a.) is reproducible with Merlin FCS, so it seems not a regression to Merlin(I didn't see any machine or browser hanging up in tyring the test for some time, though).
* This is not reproducible in other non-GUI cases on the same page.
* This is not reproducible on IE5/Win98.
* This is reproducible intermittedly and once applet can be loaded completely, this problem does not occur during the same browser session.
(Once applet is executed without this problem or applet is executed with pattern (a.), this problem does not occur during the same browser session.)
* If the applet is executed again after (b.) case, Browser finishes with an error dialog which says there is no response from the system(but no machine hanging up).
Trying the same test on Windows2000 prof. japanese, this problem does not occur.
This problem sometimes cause machine or browser hanging up, so it seems a severe problem though it is a intermitted problem.
So I set 2 for the severity of this bug.
If P3/S2 is not appropriate, please change it.
===============================================================================
When I found this problem, I used NS4.7 ja.
I retested with NS4.78 ja for several times on 3 Windows98 machines today and I saw (a.) and (b.) phenomenon on 2 of them.
And I saw the browser hanging up in loding plugin on the rest of the machines;
Pressing "Ctrl + Alt + Del", to kill the process of NS, but it can't work and then, "Ctrl + Alt + Del" can't work any more and need to power down
This is not seen on the same machine with NS4.7 ja: this problem is (d.)
The spec of the testing machine:
(1)Machine name : Target
Gateway GP6-400
CPU: PentiumIII 1000MH x1
Memory: 256MB SDRAM
MotherBord: Intel: 440BX AGP set
Video Card: ATI: Xpert98 ATI 3D RAGE PRO 8MB AGP
(2)Machine name : Javatea
Gateway GP6-400
CPU: PentiumII 400MH x1
Memory: 256MB SDRAM
MotherBord: Intel: 440BX AGP set
Video Card: ATI: STB Velocity128 RIVA128 4MB AGP (Built in)
(3)Machine name : Tequilla
Gateway E-5200
CPU: PentiumIII 750MHz x2
Memory: 256MB SDRAM
MotherBord: Tyan: Tiger 100 Dual Pentium II/III, 233-550MHz, 440BX Chipset
VideoCard: Matrox: Millenium II G400 Single Head 32MB AGP
With NS4.7 ja all (a.) (b.) and (c.) phenomenon was seen on three machines.
With NS4.78 ja (a.) was seen on both of (1) and (2) machines and (d.) is seen on (2) as far as I tested today.
