Mozilla is going to FCS in a few months. Their support for the
object tag is weaker than that in Netscape 6.2.2. Does this mean
the Netscape is going to track Mozilla in whatever follows 6.2.2?
There is sample code for the problem in the attachments. The problem
is with the HTML file HelloSwingApplet9_a.html. The script make.ksh
builds the jar files referenced by the object tag.
NS 6.2.2 is able to get the dynamic versioning form of the object
tag (the IE style of the tag) to work. Navigate to
http://hestia.sfbay/~ajacobs/object/HelloSwingApplet9_a.html
Mozilla 1.0 RC 2 does not have this ability. To get Mozilla, uninstall
Mozilla if you already have it. Then navigate to http://www.mozilla.org/releases
and go to the Win32 section. Click on "talkback enabled Full_Installer.exe".
Remember to fuss with the proxy settings in the download panes.
Reproducing the problem is not really the point, though. Somebody needs
to interface with Mozilla/AOL and make sure that the OBJECT tag is
supported at the level Netscape 6.2.2 supports it -- or better. Mozilla
may not be important, but the follow-on to Netscape 6.2.2 is.
