Steps to reproduce:
install j2re-1_4_0-fcs-bin-b92-win-i-07_feb_2002.exe
install jupdate141-b10.exe
After it indicates installed successfully
>d:which java
>d:\WINDOWS\system32\java.exe
>d:\java -version
Error message is thrown:
Error: could not open 'D:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1\lib\i586\jvm.cfg`
checked and found jvm.cfg is at D:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1\lib\i386
changed i386 to i586, then showed correct version name: (build 1.4.1-beta-b10)
Verified on Windows XP and Windows 98 se, both Japanese locale.

Verified with a new build of (jupdatexxx)_141-b13.exe Kumar gave me, the problem is gone. The update lib directory now has both i386 and i586 directories.
