Build: b13 Hopper
Platform: Windows XP-Home, XP-Professional
Test: Dirty Install of Test JDK( Hopper b13) over Release JDK (Merlin 1.4.0 FCS).
Description: Hopper is first installed over Merlin (both default directories). When merlin is uninstalled, plugin tests fail. It results in two different scenarios.
In the first case, the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//SOFTWARE//JavaSoft//Java Plug-in " key (& sub keys) in the Windows Registry is not present.
In the second case, the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//SOFTWARE//JavaSoft//Java Plug-in " key is present, but the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//SOFTWARE//JavaSoft//Java Plug-in// 1.4.1//JavaHome" sub key is not there. Hence the plugin tests have failed in both the above scenarios.
These tests have been run in Windows XP-Home and Win XP-professional(32 bit).
The tests have also been run with non default directories for both Hopper & merlin, the result was "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//SOFTWARE//JavaSoft//Java Plug-in "
registry key not present & plugin tests failed.
The above problem has not been reproduced 100% of the time. The plugin did run once in Win Xp-Pro with out any problem (both default directories).
The results haven been inconsistent and the test have been conducted on 2 different XP-Home machines & one XP-Pro machine.
UPDATE 1: (06/04/2002)
The same problem is encountered when a Dirty install of JRE (Hopper) over JRE (merlin) is done. The registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//SOFTWARE//JavaSoft//Java Plug-in// 1.4.1//JavaHome" is not there. Hence the plugin doesnt work.
builds used for test: jre-1_4_1-beta-windows-i586-i.exe & jre-1_4_0-win-i.exe
UPDATE 2: (06/04/2002)
During Dirty install test of JRE(hopper) over release JDK1.4.0(w/o JRE), after uninstalling JDK 1.4.0(w/o JRE), the registy entry for Plug-in is in proper condition. Looks like some problem with JRE installer.
builds used for above test:
jre-1_4_1-beta-windows-i586.exe & j2sdk-1_4_0-win.exe
