Please check your installation, HotSpot does not work correctly
when installed in the JDK 1.2 Linux Production Release, or
with any JDK 1.1.x release.
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
The file I installed from is j2sdk-1_4_0_01-linux-i586.bin
FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION :
Linux mj.cherryville.org 2.4.19-gentoo-r5 #7 Thu Jun 6

glibc-2.2.5
binutils-2.12.90.0.7
EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
I have built my linux system using gcc3.1
I have tried passing various options to the java command,
-client, -server, -Xint, but it doesn't change anything.
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
I cannot get the jvm to start up. Any of the $JAVA_HOME/bin
commands (and those in $JAVA_HOME/jre/bin) fail when trying
to start the jvm. I have tried using strace and ltrace to
see if I could see anything obvious, but obviously it hasn't.
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
1. install j2sdk-1_4_0_01-linux-i586.bin
2. $JAVA_HOME/bin/java (anything that starts up a jvm)
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
I expect the jvm to start and execute the code.
