FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
java version "1.4.1-beta"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1-beta-b14)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1-beta-b14, mixed mode)
FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION :
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
ADDITIONAL OPERATING SYSTEMS :
none
EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
GeForce 3 graphics card, Detonator 29.42 drives, Windows XP
ClearType fonts turned on
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
When running the SwingSet2 demo that comes with the J2SDK,
many of the fonts are very small when using the Windows Look
and Feel. The fonts are not the proper Windows default
fonts, as they were before in 1.4.0.
This behavior occurs on all of the examples
- frames, buttons, checkboxes, combo boxes, file choosers, etc -
when the system settings are Tahoma 10 for everything (except
title bars, which are Tahoma 12). The key setting appears to
be Message Text; switching from size 8 to size 10 resulted
in the size disparity.
REGRESSION. Last worked in version 1.4
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
1. Run the SwingSet2.jar sample that comes with the J2SDK
1.4.1 beta.
2. Wait for the app to load.
3. From the "Look & Feel" menu, select "Windows Style Look &
Feel"
4. The "Internal Frames" sample should be showing. Look at
the fonts of the tab labels, the checkbox labels, etc.
Compare those to the fonts used for the menus. They should
be the same, but the label fonts are much smaller.
5. Click on the "Source Code" tab. Again, the font is very
small.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
The fonts should use the standard Windows fonts for
controls. Also, if ClearType in Windows XP is turned on, the
fonts shouyld be antialiased.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
