A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
On a clean install of windows XP if you install the JDK
1.4.1 -beta version of the sdk, the plugin for Internet
Explorer 6 will not activate.
how to verify:
after installing the full JDK go to controllpanel - java
and try to activate the plugin in the java "console" an
error saying that the operation did not work - and that you
shold check if you have file access to the system. Bare in
mind that all the operations described in this bug report is
done ass Administrator (root).
Solution:
If you go a java enabled site Win Xp will you if you want
java installed - click yes
you get redirected to a MS site which lets you know that the
automatic download of MS Java Vm has stoped. (but it
downloads some info for the windows update feature so the
next time you run update on win xp you can download MS java WM)
Ok download the MS java vm - after the ms vm is installed
you can enter the java enabled site and java is activated
and working with IE 6.
Now go back to the java Console via controlpanel - Java ...
Activate Suns's Java Plugin by checking the appropriate "box"
And finally now you have the the Suns Jre 1.4.1 beta plugin
installed on your Windows XP bok
REGRESSION. Last worked in version 1.4
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
1.clean win xp install
2.install jdk 1.4.1 beta
3.try to activate plugin via java console
4. install MS Java vm
5. Now you can activate the Sun Microsystem plugin via the
java configuration console
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
